Mid week riding

Did some riding to and from work and out and about this week.

Wednesday night I got out for a ride with Brent.
We went up to Brockville through Merrickville/Burritt's Rapids.
Came home through Toledo and Mott's Mills through Port Elmsley to Perth.

Took a little rest at the dam in Mott's Mills.

I just missed getting a photo of a small watersnake...it was about 2 ft. long.
It disappeared pretty fast.

Not a huge ride, but as always...a  good one.

This week's rides

It turned out to be a 1000 km. week.

I did the canal/Ottawa river parkway route a couple of times this week , as well as riding to and from work a few times.

The Ottawa river looks to be at near record low level...

We stopped at Remic rapids to see the stone sculptures

Friday after work I did a run with a colleague from work, and we covered a fair bit of ground.

Started in Bell's Corners then up to Calabogie, to Watson's Corners, Elphin, Maberly, Westport, Kingston to Brockville along the St Lawrence, Brockville to Cornwall on the 401 and home on the 138 to 417.

Pretty good week all in all.

I have an amazing wife and family and everyone is... (touch wood) healthy.

My friends are few but like brothers.

I love my job and work with great people.

I own a Harley.

Life is truly good. :)

Sunday Ride

Met up with Brent this morning for what was going to be a little ride , because of afternoon thunderstorms.

Met at his place and headed for breakfast at the "Rocky Mountain House" in Renfrew...always good.

Our route from there was erratic...towards Eganville, but veered off and headed up Silver Lake road  and took a back route into Killaloe.

From there... around Round lake and up Round lake road to Pembroke.
Up to Westmeath, La Passe, Beachburg ,Cobden and home.

Didn't seem very long or hard...but it was almost 470 km.
Not a big ride...but respectable.

Bike stuff and rides

It was kind of a busy week ride and bike wise.
I rode into work 4 days, got out for a ride mid week with Brent and put 4" risers on the bike. The stock ones were about 1-3/4" or so...so I got an extra 2-1/4" in height on the bars.
Big difference comfort -wise, and looks tres sharp as well.

A couple of pics below.

My wife and I went out for a nice ride today.
We went up the 416 to highway 2, and then up to Long Sault to the Long Sault parkway and the Mille Roche beach.

Didn't even know this place existed...a series of islands in the St. Lawrence connected by causeways, and containing camp grounds, parks and beaches.
Uber nice.

Below is an arial view of the islands , I grabbed off of a tourism site...

A Pic of me displaying my farmer's tan

A couple of views of the water from where we were sitting.

Pulled into the Esso at the 401/416 junction to cool off and get some drinks, and looked at my mileage.
Pretty fricken cool number.
6's and 9's are my lucky numbers.
You couldn't plan a number like this to happen just when you hit a planned stop...freaky.

The only shitty part of the day was the heat on the ride home...it was oppressively hot.

But...I should take that back, cuz this winter I will look back on days like today as paradise lost.

Summer's evening ride

Got out for a nice little ride with Brent after work.

Richmond to Burritt's Rapids, Merrickville to Brockville, Smiths Falls to Perth then Lanark and up Wolf Grove to Almonte ...and home !

Stopped at the falls/locks in Smiths Falls.
Pretty nice place.

I never thought of Smiths Falls as a tourist destination...but when you see all of the boats at the locks, and how nice the grounds and everything are kept ...that changes.

Sure can't complain about the weather we have been having.
It is ideal for riding. Perfect !

Monday 9 July 2012

Not much new....

Not really anything exciting happening here.

I rode into work every day last week ,and got out for a nice ride on Sunday with my wife to Merrickville and Smiths falls, but nothing huge.

Ordered 4" risers for my handlebars which should come in this week, and installed passenger foot boards on the bike.
Oh, and changed the oil.

Went to Bluesfest last Friday with a nice group of people to see "City and Colour" and David Gray which was tres cool.

and Saturday went to the NAC to see the orchestra do the Lord of the Rings.
Awesome .

I guess that was a busy enough week... just not a lot of riding.

Rode into work today...hoping to get out 1 night this week and for sure 1 day this weekend.

Weekend rides

Got out for a nice Canada day ride with my wife.

We went up to Carp, Arnprior, along the river to Horton, Renfrew ( where we ate at the Rocky Mountain Schnitzel House) , Burnstown , Waba, Almonte and home.

Just a nice summer ride on a perfect summer day.

Today I met up with Brent and we went up to Kaladar, Napanee, Bath, Kingston, Highway 15 to Smith Falls and home.

Lake Ontario is really pretty along highway 33, which runs from near Picton to Kingston.

Lots of little rest stops with historical significance...or none.

There is a scenic route through Kingston that follows the lake and takes you right downtown without all of the traffic and big box store malls.
I discovered it on one of my solo expeditions.
Downtown Kingston is beautiful.

It was a great ride.
We saw eagle nests with hatchlings in them outside Adolphustown.

Rode along Lake Ontario.

Stopped for lunch outside of Bath and feasted on baloney sandwiches (now with 50% more beaks and snouts) and granola bars washed down with Fresca.
Yes..I am now one of those dorks who packs a lunch for us.
Eat in a fast food restaurant... either before you are actually hungry or when you are starving.....or stop whenever you want and eat outside.... by the water.
And you don't feel violated afterwards.
Nicer view, too.

A shot from the  table we ate at.

And then home.
The ride .......and my holiday..... is over.

Back from Holidays

Spent this past week at Nangor Resort up near Westmeath Ont. doing the family holiday.

Went for a few after dinner freedom ( helmetless) rides , but the week was not about riding, it was about family and fishing and bonfires and jiffy pop.

I finally solved the scientific issue of the century (perhaps of the millenium) and came up with a way to cook jiffy pop over a fire without burning the shit out of my fingers.

My wife suggested coat hangers...and the rest is,  as you can see below...history.

Great bonfires and views.

Lots of fish.
My son and his wife and my daughter did a lot of fishing and had a lot of success.
Alas for poor Philip....sniff ..

Me with Nick's Pike.

Unhooking a less than monstrous perch.

It was over way too soon. I was just getting into the groove and it was time to leave.

Back to reality.
